About 6 months after owning it, the lock is completely froze up. Can't cut the darn thing off without cutting my safety chain hook up off either

That is not good to hear at all! I have a couple of tips and tricks you can try. WD-40, a de-icer, or Graphite Spray are lubricants that keep water out of locks to prevent freezing. You could also smear some petroleum jelly on the lock, it works the same as WD-40 or the graphite spray. Since the lock is already frozen, you could dip your key into some hand sanitizer. The alcohol from the hand sanitizer should melt the ice after you wiggle it around a bit. Try some of these out and let me know how it works for you and we can go from there.

Would’ve been a great little lock had it actually fit in the housing. Too short for mine. Turns out my housing is 3”, not 2”. My bad. Paid $25 for it, etrailer wants $17 for return shipping fee? Pretty lame. So buyer beware, measure your housing first!

by:

I really like this receiver lock and have 3 of this model in total. The machined finish of the lock bar and the locking mechanism with dust cap are well made. The blue (and red on my other hitch lock) accent color is a nice touch.

by:

Really good and cool looking hitch lock, service from trailer is always excellent, have purchased several products for my vehicles there, always great quality and superb costumer service..

by:

Works as advertised. I have a Tesla Y and this is the only one that will fit it the small space provided.

by:

Solid gear. Well constructed. Easy & convenient security for hitch cover / ball assembly. Look forward to many years of reliable use.

by:

This hitch is very well made and very heavy. very good product

by:

Exactly what I needed for my 2014 Jeep Wrangler! Fits perfectly and does not interfere with the light connector.

by:

Works flawlessly

by:

Great alternative for a trailer hitch lock for my 2016 Yukon because of GM's lack of spacing between receiver and seven pin plug to use my lock that had key entering from the horizontal direction.

by:

Love the product, the service and the very personal touch from etrailer.com! Great to deal with and an overall great experience so far! The lock was for my hitch extender which is also perfect?

It continues to work very well

by:

In addition to the hitch and bike rack, a Kuat, I purchased this extremely sturdy lock. It’s thicker than the one which came with the rack, but still has no problem being threaded through the hitch and rack, and adds stability, besides security.

by:

Easy to use, works as advertised. I use this to lock my bike rack onto my Subaru Crosstrek and its easy to lock and unlock.

Still performing as expected. Quality product.

by:

Works great, no issues. This lock makes it easy to access the keyhole. Our previous straight lock took two people and some tricky hand positions to get the key inserted, because of the tight spacing around the hitch reciever and electrical trailer connector on the back of our Audi Q7. I'd recommend this to anyone with a cramped setup around their hitch.

Love the products, love the support, love the videos and resources for using these. Couldn't be happier with your company, except ONE THING: Shipping.
In ordering two hitches (got one for a friend) both came with the hitches bursting through the cardboard box.
While there was no damage to either (it's steel!) In the second shipment, the including lock pin set got so rattled the boxed set came apart, and the keys literally fell out of the MAIN box during shipping.
Looking at some other customer reviews, this is NOT uncommon.
I understand saving some money on shipping - but your shipping department needs to pack smaller items in a more secure manner within these huge boxes.
It also wouldn't hurt to use some styrofoam on the edges of the hitches that are prone to puncture the boxes, causing an egress point for the smaller insecure items in the box to be lost. Just MHO.

by:

I like the fact that I now only need to carry 1 key set to open two of these locks; but it's a little short to use on my 2014 Toyota Tacoma -- is just won't lock because the shank is about 2-3mm shorter than what I need. Now I have an extra 2" hitch lock that I can't use for what I purchased it for.

This lock will not work with some factory 2 trailer hitches that have an outside width wider than 2-3/4. Toyota OEM trailer hitches have that extra piece on the outside of the hitch and they require a different, longer locking hitch pin such part #1469DAT.

by:

It just plain works, however due to the right angle locking design it is a little awkward to get the lock head on while you are holding the key in the spinning lock head and at the same time holding the pin in with you other hand as you put pressure on the pin while you are pushing on the locking head AND turning the key while the lock hesd wants to spin...mine will not press on and lock without the key in and turned..3 handed monkey operation

by:

Great product! Solid and sturdy construction, exactly as described. Also, fast processing and shipping! Great company with great products.

by:

Well as a truck camper owner the big, big thing is always getting up into the rig.
These steps are highly talked of online. I like them and knew they would solve my entering problem.
They did....but they are very awkward and bulky to travel with....

I actually think they should make them break down for tvavel...

etrailer.com.....seemed to work hard to ship my order fast and etrailer seems to be very willing to work hard at reasonable prices...
.So, I must try to help etrailer on this one honest mistake.....

When my order shipped, etrailer combined my two items..one BIG BuLKY. Awkwad set of steps.....with my hitch-lock that goes in it....

Well the awkward steel steps ripped and gashed the cardboard box in about 3 or 4 areas. There was no packing foam or bunched news paper...

This poor master hitch lock hadn't a chance.....it rattled around on the steps and got bashed out of its little box......and out of its internal bag....and its little set of keys likely went bye bye out one of 4 big box gashes.....

So, now I need to... somehow get new keys to this lock...it is useless as is.....
If etrailer can send keys the key number is on the box as : 1480 KA. Key:0501.

If etrailer sends me a working hitch-lock with keys... my problem is solved...

Aside of this unfortunate happening, I am happy with the price and quality and service that eTrailer has delivered...I just need this one little issue fixed to give etrailer 5 Stars.!
Thank You for your concern

Master lock has done an excellent job on the design and function of this hitch lock. After doing a number of research on varies types and models, this was the top choice. Right now I'm just using it for my hitch cover. I don't want my cover getting legs and walk away. It fits perfectly on my 2012 Dodge Durango Crew factory 2" hitch receiver. The next best thing about this Lock. I brought it from you guys (Etrailer). The price was right and shipping was fast. From here on out I will only buy all of my hitch and roof rack assessories from etrailer. Great job guys and keep the great work.

Still working great one year later!!

by:

so far so good - nice fit no wiggle what so ever, great customer support, I told Angela what I was looking for and she lead me in the right direction.

by:

While the product aesthetic looks are pleasing and looked cool at first and as much as I greased it to prevent corrosion, the actual lock mechanism inside where the shaft insert basically seized up making this lock completely useless. This happened within six months of use. I ended up buying a generic one from etrailer instead and of course, it works. I don't know if Masterlock's quality is the same as in the past. Certainly not for the price paid originally.

  • Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System w/ 4-Point Sway Control for Ford F-150
Yes, the Equal-i-zer weight distribution hitches do reduce tongue weight by using a spring bar to move some of the tongue weight to your trailer axles, and some to your front truck axle. Probably just what you need to stop your truck from squatting down in the back also. If your trailer dry weight is 8300 pounds then a tongue weight of 10 to 15% would be 830 to 1245 pounds. However nobody I have ever met actually tows a "dry" trailer. You should consider the weight of your trailer when...

After a long period in place a lock mechanism can stick and make it tough to get the key in it, or to get the inserted key to turn. There are a few suggestions I can offer to you to get your lock # 1480DAT open. You can spray a bit of aerosol white lithium grease into the lock. Do not use powdered graphite as it will eventually harden. A small amount can also be applied to the key before it is inserted. • How to Determine if the Master Lock Hitch Lock part # 1480DAT will fit a Hitch or Not
Some vehicles (usually Toyota), have hitch tubes that are wider than most standard hitches. In those cases the part # 1480DAT would not be long enough to fit. What you will need to do is measure the outside width of your hitch to find out if this will fit. If the width of your hitch ends up less than 2-3/4 inches this will fit and work well. If you need a wider hitch the Tow Ready part # TR63253 has a usable span of 3-1/2 inches.
